TISE 2026: surface materials meet installation craft
Stone, tile and flooring discussions in Las Vegas connected material choices with fabrication and installation.

A surface is more than its appearance in a sample display. Its suitability depends on the setting, preparation and installation method. TISE offered a useful reminder that selecting a material and understanding how it will be installed belong in the same conversation.
A meeting across the surface industries
The January 27–29 exhibition took place at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The organizer’s closing report described focused Stone + Tile and Surfaces areas, with demonstrations and education alongside the product displays.
Installation issues made visible
The tise LIVE Demo Stage covered subjects including adhesives, deflection and moisture mitigation. The Cage, presented by the Stone Fabricator’s Alliance, hosted daily fabrication demonstrations.
A demonstration is most useful when the viewer understands the conditions behind it. Contractors can use the follow-up conversation to ask about preparation, tolerances and the limits of a proposed method for their projects.
Different materials, different questions
The Learning Lab, developed with the International Surface Fabricators Association, addressed quartz, solid surfaces, large-format porcelain and other manufactured materials. The Natural Stone Theatre included stone identification, restoration and sustainability topics.
That range argues for comparing systems within their intended applications. A product that is compelling in one setting may require a different installation approach or maintenance plan elsewhere.
Recognition for installation skill
James Salisbury of Blue Crew Installation won the carpet category in the National Installer of the Year competition. Allen Lewis won the engineered-wood category. Eight finalists took part in the final installation challenges.
The recognition draws attention to the skilled work that turns a specified material into a finished surface. It also provides a useful balance to a show-floor discussion that might otherwise focus mainly on new products.
Questions to carry into the next project
Bring the installer into material selection early. Establish the intended use, preparation requirements and aftercare expectations before narrowing the shortlist. A clear record of those decisions gives the project team a better basis for reviewing options than appearance or promotional claims alone.
