International Mass Timber Conference 2026: engineered timber moves toward complete building systems
Product displays and regional collaboration connected timber materials with the work of delivering projects.
The International Mass Timber Conference marked its tenth year in Portland on March 31–April 2, 2026. The event brought manufacturers, fabricators, fastener suppliers and building teams together around the practical use of engineered timber.
A supply chain on display
Wisconsin DNR’s participant account reported more than 3,000 attendees from 28 countries. Its examples included a Freres booth made from mass plywood and Kalesnikoff’s modular mass-timber classroom.
The account also described the launch of the Great Lakes Mass Timber Collaborative’s Regional Vision document. State representatives discussed how their respective industries could contribute to wider adoption.
From a material to a deliverable project
These examples bring different scales of the industry into view: a material product, a prefabricated space and a regional supply network. Each requires coordination beyond the selection of timber alone.
For a project team, the useful questions concern who fabricates the components, when design decisions must be fixed and how the pieces reach the site. Those details should be addressed with the responsible designers and suppliers.
Make early coordination tangible
Ask for a clear account of design inputs, manufacturing lead times and delivery responsibilities. Identify which changes remain possible after production begins and which would require a revised scope.
The conference’s strongest materials story is the connection between a promising product and a project that can be delivered. The exhibition becomes more useful when it helps the team establish that connection early.
