METALCON 2025: metal systems depend on installation knowledge
Roofing, wall systems and fabrication shared a program that connected materials with the people installing them.
METALCON’s October 21–23 edition in Las Vegas focused on metal’s use in design and construction. The published program made a strong case for considering the material and its installation method together.
Training alongside the products
The organizer’s press kit described Metal Mastery Clinics covering metal shingles, standing-seam panels, retrofit systems and wall systems. The program also included on-site rollforming and machine-maintenance demonstrations.
A separate training zone used mock-ups and materials including painted steel, aluminum, zinc and copper. The advertised emphasis was on detailing and the appropriate use of tools, with instruction in English and Spanish.
A material is part of an assembly
For contractors and specifiers, a sample panel is only the beginning of the review. Ask how the proposed material works with the rest of the assembly and which details need to be settled before fabrication.
Installation guidance, access for the work and the sequence of adjoining trades belong in that discussion. A change in one component can affect the information needed by another supplier or installer.
Carry the detail into the quotation
A useful post-show quotation should identify the proposed system, included accessories and the responsibilities for project-specific details. Compare alternatives on that common basis.
METALCON’s training focus is relevant because a material’s promise has to survive the journey from selection to fabrication and installation. Clear documentation helps keep that journey connected.
