International Builders’ Show 2026: product innovation meets building practice
New building products and demonstrations put installation, sequencing and practical adoption at the center of the conversation.

The 2026 NAHB International Builders’ Show took place February 17–19 at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center. For builders and remodelers, the show brought product choices into contact with the methods and business decisions needed to use them.
The show in numbers
NAHB reported nearly 75,000 IBS registrants, 1,650 exhibitors and 679,000 net square feet of exhibits. These are IBS figures, separate from the larger combined Design & Construction Week totals.
The scale matters most when it supports a focused comparison. A builder can use a broad supplier base to evaluate the alternatives for one repeated problem, from enclosure details to interior finishing.
Visitors and exhibitors saw a technology shift
In NAHB’s report, Zeke Keel of Webb Building Essentials highlighted the prominence of technology and AI. Owens Corning’s Jessica Bazzi described a strong response while the company presented a new product.
Those observations sit alongside the new AI & Tech Studio, where hands-on demonstrations and case studies brought digital tools into the building discussion. A useful follow-up is to ask how a tool changes an existing estimating, planning or site-management task, and who will maintain the information it relies on.
Recognition for a familiar bottleneck
Muddskip’s drywall-finishing technology received Best in Show, Most Innovative Building Material and Most Innovative Construction Tool in the 2026 Best of IBS awards. The judges highlighted its wet-on-wet application approach and potential to change the finishing sequence.
That recognition makes the product worth investigating. It does not remove the need to check substrate conditions, application instructions and compatibility with the complete wall-finishing system.
Evaluate the sequence, not just the product
A change to one trade’s work can affect the next trade’s schedule. When comparing a new finishing material or installation method, identify which steps disappear, which move elsewhere and which require new skills.
A useful mock-up includes the people who will install and inspect the work. Their observations can reveal access problems, handling requirements or details that are easy to miss when looking only at a sample.
A practical brief for the next supplier meeting
Bring a typical project detail, the current specification and the problem that needs solving. Ask for a trial with clear acceptance criteria and support arrangements.
The value of IBS is not simply the number of products a builder discovers. It is the opportunity to turn a new idea into a method that the project team can repeat consistently.
